That Lucy and Ethel thing got you didn’t it? Sound too crazy?

Maybe not.

There’ll never be another Lucy and Ethel, but you can have deep, meaningful relationships with your donors. Relationships based in more than transactions. And you shouldn’t settle for anything less. Of course you can’t have the same depth of relationship with every donor but you can treat each donor individually and respectfully, which will help you raise more than just money for your ministry.

We believe there must be a balance between your organization managing the donor’s relationship and the donor managing the relationship with the organization. Disney calls this Customer Managed Relationships-CMR (instead of Customer Relationship Management-CRM). We call it turning donors into friends (and we don’t have an acronym for it).

If you connect with them in the right way, your donors will invite you into their lives, which changes everything. You’re no longer pushing more direct mail on them, you’re having a conversation with a friend. A friend who’ll stick with you even when you’re in trouble at the chocolate factory.
